Is anyone out there tired of hearing our state and national leaders threaten vetoes if they don’t get their way? What has happened to the idea of representative government and checks and balances? Is this bullying at its apex?
Teacher evaluation and bonus payments to super teachers are great ideas when you have a fair and objective method of evaluation. We do not have that now. Certainly test scores reflect to an extent the effectiveness of the teacher, but there are so many other factors such as family life, poverty, native ability, addiction and other health problems. And yet, our governor is refusing to budge on the Gap Elimination Adjustment or even releasing aid projections until he gets his way.
It would be refreshing to see our legislators on both sides of the aisle unite and stand up to the governor and override vetoes. It would also be refreshing to see the voters unite and vote out of office their representatives that stay with the status quo.
It is time to emphasize the positive things about public schools and stop destroying what we have. Act now before it is too late.
